Peter Gabriel uses orchestral instrumentation on his new album "Scratch My
Back." The album is set for a February 15 release date and features covers of
songs by David Bowie, Paul Simon, Neil Young and Radiohead, among others. All of
the artists whose songs are covered by Peter Gabriel will in turn rework his
songs on a future album, titled "I'll Scratch Yours."
Kanye West recording new album
Kanye West is in the studio recording new material. The rapper revealed on his
blog that he will is listening to Maya Angelou, Gill Scott-Heron and Nina Simone
for inspiration as they documented what was happening in American culture. Kanye
West’s last album “808s & Heartbreak” was released in 2008.
Nine Inch Nails working on new material
Nine Inch Nails’s Trent Reznor has announced that he is working on new projects.
Despite the band's decision to quit touring after a set of farewell club shows
in late 2009 it seems that the band is working on a new album. Earlier Reznor
has hinted at possibly forming a new band as well. Meanwhile, Trent Reznor is
also working with synth-pop musician Gary Numan, who joined the group onstage at
several of the farewell concerts.
David Bowie tribute album set for May
The tracklisting for a David Bowie tribute album has been announced. The album
will featuring such artists as Soulwax and Duran Duran. The album will also
include a Spanish version of “Sound & Vision” by Devendra Banhart's Megapuss and
“Red Money” by Swahili Blonde and John Frusciante. The album is planned to be
out in May and includes 28 songs, with all proceeds going to Warchild UK.
Soundgarden to reunite
Soundgarden will reunite for concerts in 2010, according to frontman Chris
Cornell. The Seattle based band consisting of Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil,
bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron, has not played live since
splitting up in 1997. Although no details have been announced yet, the group is
said to contemplate on various offers from major US and international music
festivals. Tour routing is also depending on Matt Cameron's prior commitments to
play with Pearl Jam in the spring and summer. Cameron has been Pearl Jam's
permanent drummer since 1998. |
